Elham’s residents’ association and the Parish Council have come together to support isolated people in the village. They have co-ordinated a group of well-being volunteers, who are collecting prescriptions, food shopping, delivering take-aways, dog walking and buddy calls.
The pub is serving take-away meals and drinks; every household received a hand delivered leaflet with details of the support on offer and take-away menus. Food shopping is bought from the village shop unless items are needed that it can’t provide.
Residents contact the Parish Clerk or another co-ordinator with a request. There are 5 Whatsapp groups for each service on offer and volunteers are contacted by the clerk/co-ordinator when a request is made. The nearest pharmacy in Lyminge now gets all prescriptions for Elham residents ready and one volunteer visits daily (if required) to collect them.
A Well-Being Committee has been set up and is looking at resources for what else can be provided as other needs arise. Lots of residents are benefiting from the service and of course, those people who are not isolated can use the pub’s take-away service themselves and buy provisions from the shop.
